How to Photograph a Saree for Online Selling Without Losing Its Design

Build evidence before making a beautiful image

A good catalogue starts with evidence photographs. These frames do not need a dramatic background. They need even light, accurate colour, clear focus and enough coverage to show every customer-visible part of the saree.

Use one physical saree throughout the session. Do not mix a close-up from a similar colourway or reuse one photograph for two different evidence roles.

Photograph the flat saree in two parts

Lay the saree in a consistent orientation and photograph the first half from directly above. Then photograph the second half with a clear overlapping band from the first frame. The overlap proves continuity and helps reconstruct the layout without guessing.

Keep camera height, zoom, white balance and lighting stable. Do not crop the long borders. Together, the two images should cover the complete body from starting end to pallu.

Add open pallu and detail frames

Photograph the pallu open and square to the camera. If it has bands or a central panel, include the full arrangement in one frame before making close-ups.

Add a border-and-motif detail with a familiar scale reference kept outside the textile area when practical. The close-up should show edge construction, motif sharpness and texture without a beauty filter.

Capture front, side and back drape views

Use a mannequin or model to show how the actual saree falls. Capture full-length front, side and back views from shoulder to hem. Keep hands, bags and jewellery away from borders and important motifs.

A pallu-forward view is valuable when the terminal design is a key selling point. Do not create a back view with generative AI when no back evidence exists.

Control colour and file quality

Use neutral light and avoid coloured reflections from walls or curtains. Include a grey or colour reference frame during capture, then remove it from final customer images.

Keep a high-resolution master and export lightweight WebP or AVIF copies for the website. Compression should reduce file size without blurring small motifs or metallic detail.
